In our office, spring means one thing: Scholarship Season. Sure, there’s also high school graduation and end-of-school-year events, as well as grant applications and regular office work, but May is when we award our scholarships.

One of our most prestigious is the Mary Wilsberg Scholarship, awarded to a Grand Haven or Spring Lake High School student who not only has excelled academically, but has also demonstrated well-rounded community participation and service to others. Created in 1988, this scholarship honors Ms. Wilsberg, who graduated from Grand Haven High School in 1943, the University of Michigan in 1947 (BA) and 1952 (MA), then received her Doctorate (Ed.D.) in teaching and curriculum development from Columbia University, Teachers College in New York City, NY in 1964.

Two students received the Wilsberg Scholarship this year: Maiya Yu from Grand Haven High School and Ana West from Spring Lake High School. A total of 175 scholarships, worth $403,875, were awarded to students in Northwest Ottawa County.

Congratulations to all our recipients and good luck next fall!
