Grant writing can be rewarding. It can also be challenging. As your community for-impact partner, the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation (GHACF) is here to help you through that process. Here are four key tips to keep in mind when taking part in the important task of applying for a competitive grant:

1.  Note the application steps, information required, and deadlines to be sure you have enough time to dedicate to the process. This will also likely include looking into local collaborations and project sustainability solutions.

2.  Be sure your organization and project fit the priority areas and requirements of the funder.

GHACF Fast Fact: We strongly encourage organizations to reach out to us prior to even beginning a grant application to discuss what could be in your best interest to bring forward.

3.  Tell your story in a structured and meaningful way. Concisely convey the need for funding and how it could impact the community. Support your narrative with facts such as data or testimonials.

4.  Have someone outside of your organization or program proofread your work to be sure your proposal accurately communicates what you intended.

GHACF Fast Fact: After you feel your proposal draft is complete, we provide a window of time for you to contact us before hitting that submit button. We will gladly review your complete application draft and provide useful feedback.
