Patti Cummings
Program OfficerWhat do you do at the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation?
As part of the Grants & Program Team, I assist both for-impact organizations and students through our competitive grant and scholarship programs. Additionally, I assist in guiding the grantmaking activities of our affiliate foundations.
How long have you been with the GHACF?
I joined the Grants & Program Team at GHACF in April of 2024.
Why do you work at the GHACF?
I decided to work at the community foundation because I’m passionate about making a positive impact right here in our community. Community foundations are like the heartbeats of local philanthropy, linking donors with the causes they care deeply about and channeling funds to support all kinds of community needs.
Being part of GHACF means I get to dive straight into this process, whether it’s managing grants, teaming up with donors and nonprofits, or brainstorming programs to tackle local challenges. It’s such a fulfilling way to help improve our community and see the difference we’re making firsthand.
Education & Experience
I earned my Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work degrees from Grand Valley State University. I’ve been deeply involved with different nonprofits and volunteer organizations, primarily focusing on poverty alleviation and homeless/housing services. Throughout my journey, I’ve gained valuable experience in program management, grant writing, strategic planning, community collaborations, and advocacy.
My passion lies in contributing to the overall wellbeing of all members of our community.
Do you have a leisure activity or hobby?
I have several leisure activities and hobbies that I enjoy. I love hiking, kayaking, camping, and soaking up the beauty of the beaches along Lake Michigan. Additionally, I find relaxation and enjoyment in reading, long road trips, repurposing furniture, and spending quality time with my three kids, as well as with my family and friends.
What’s something most people don’t know about you?
Most people don’t know that I’ve been practicing prayer and mindfulness for years. It’s become an essential part of my daily routine, helping me stay grounded and focused.
